George Garcia Jr. started out a little under 10 years ago with French Bulldogs. His founding female Chanel, came from a kennel owned by rapper Big Boi from the hip-hop duo OutKast. After finding his founding female, the next step was to line up the right stud to start building his kennel. According to George, back in that time frame the biggest name in the Frenchie world was a dog named Micro Machine. So when George came across Nano Machine (nephew to Micro Machine), he decided to go ahead with his first breeding and the rest is history. From that point on George and his family really dedicated themselves to learning everything they could about raising Frenchies.
George is a retired professional boxer with a long list of accomplishments. When he first started breeding French Bulldogs, he decided to use Instagram to network with all of his boxing connections. This helped him start off the on the right foot. George frequently posts pictures and updates about his kennel on his Instagram page. You can find the link to his page at the end of this article.
George’s Bulldogs is a family run kennel that puts a lot of time, money, effort, and dedication into their breeding program. There is a lot that goes into raising Frenchies. For instance, when the puppies are born George spends an entire week waking up every hour on the hour to take care of the puppies. He has special incubators that the puppies sleep inside of in order to help them regulate their body temperature. Every hour on the hour, they need to come out to drink milk, and then return to the incubator. George and his family do this every hour, 24 hours a day for the entire first week.
Then for the following 3 weeks he does this same routine every three hours, making sure the puppies get the attention they need. He watches carefully to make sure every puppy gets enough milk. He also watches to make sure they do not get too much milk. George said that he sits with them and if he sees milk coming out of their nose while they feeding, he will suck the milk out of their nose with a baby nasal aspirator. This is to ensure the puppies are not at risk of catching pneumonia from breathing in the excess milk.
There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to get a successful pregnancy. When his females go into heat, he uses multiple progesterone tests to determine exactly when is the best time to breed. He then needs to collect from the stud to get ready for the next phase. Once he has determined the right time, then he will schedule a time for three different artificial inseminations while she is in the peak of this stage.
If for some reason a breeding does not take, another 6 months will have to pass before trying again. Frenchies have small litters, usually around 3 puppies or so. So it is crucial to the survival of this breed, that French Bulldog breeders like George and his family take all of these extra precautions. It takes a lot of time, money, and hard work to produce high quality Frenchies like they do. George’s Bulldogs is also about to have their first English Bulldog litter very soon. So, be on the lookout for that in the months to come. They will be having their first few American Bully litters here in the near future as well.
